  • As an experienced lawyer in dispute resolution and an ex-judge for corporate and commercial cases, Mr. Zhang has been experienced in handling litigation and arbitration cases involving trade, investment, real estate, corporate, banking, insurance and securities. Mr. Zhang is an arbitrator of several arbitral institutions including CIETAC, and has acted as the presiding arbitrator, sole arbitrator or party-appointed arbitrator in a large number of arbitration cases.

    Mr. Zhang has extensive experience in cyber law, data protection and TMT. His expertise includes cyber security, data compliance, cross-border data transfer, data competition and platform anti-monopoly, administrative and criminal risk assessment in internet and data-related investigation and relevant dispute resolution. In 2021, Mr. Zhang published a book Selected Cases of the Court of Justice of the European Union Related to Data Protection: A Commentary based on his rich experience.

    As to the practices in intellectual property related areas, Mr. Zhang has advised clients on a variety of intellectual property issues and has represented clients in connection with intellectual property protection in China. He also counseled several domestic enterprises in responding to the United States section 337 investigations.

    In the field of international trade, Mr. Zhang’s practice covers a wide range of areas, including international sale of goods agreement, maritime, letter of credit, collection and customs affairs. He has been particularly experienced in antidumping, countervailing and safeguard proceedings. He has represented many Chinese companies in antidumping investigations initiated in the United States and European Union and has achieved positive results for clients.

    Mr. Zhang is a legal expert in carbon emission peak, carbon neutral and green finance. His service covers emissions and carbon trading, green loans, green investments, green bonds, green funds and green insurance.

    Mr. Zhang has also provided legal services on M&A, restructuring and IPO for numerous domestic and foreign-funded enterprises. In addition, Mr. Zhang also serves as a long-term outside legal counsel for a number of companies.

    Mr. Zhang has published a number of articles in legal journals such as International Economic Cooperation and Journal of Comparative Law. Apart from Selected Cases of the Court of Justice of the European Union Related to Data Protection: A Commentary, he is also the co-author of two books, Macroeconomic Law and An Introduction to Green Finance Theory and Practice, and the author of Accepting US Anti-dumping Challenges: Comments on Antidumping Decisions Concerning China by United States Court of International Trade.
